FIRST CHO-CHO OF '08

  • Still trying to figure out what's worse: the fact that our neighbor's door down the hall makes a loud creak right before it slams shut EVERY time she comes or goes (so that the creak prepares us for the slamming) OR the fact that the creak seems to have been oiled so less noise, but no heads-up on the slam, so it's always a jarring surprise.

  • Magnolia Bakery, famous for their cupcakes, has opened a store on the Upper West Side. Since I've almost given up sweets entirely, it bums me out that on a day I decide to be bad, I pay $2.25 for a tiny cupcake that's only okay. And the place was packed - with tourists, of course. I should have stuck with Crumbs.

  • We recently gave our baby swing away to a neighbor who will give it to a guy at his work that just had a baby. Jack never really took to it (and had basically outgrown it) and it was taking up a lot of space in our living room. Rather than store it for the next baby, we decided to post a sign in the basement and see if we had any takers. It took a few days, but finally someone came and now we both feel so much better and our living room looks so much better.

  • Adrian had a great idea for my book club. He thinks that if you've already read the book chosen for that month, that you shouldn't have to reread it. You should simply be able to say that you've read it, you might not remember it completely, but you'll come to the meeting and do your best to analyze it. This comes on the heels of the fact that the last two months I've had to reread the chosen books (and even purchase a duplicate copy as most of my books are in storage in SF).

  • Yes, Jack's taking a nap.

It's interesting to know that you can live in an apartment for almost a year and half and not know that the windows can open two ways (one so that you can actually close the top part, allowing no noise or construction dust to enter the living room) or that the heater can be turned completely off (there is no halfway, but off works for us). Better late than never, right?
