WALKS
While going out for a walk every day is great for many reasons, our various routes have become a bit boring. So for the past two days, we've tried new directions. Yesterday, we headed east, through Central Park, over to the Upper East Side. While there are a collection of better stores over there, we didn't spend much time checking them out, and only stopped in at a Dean and DeLuca to grab a water (and Adrian an $8 roast beef sandwich). Today we headed south inside Riverside Park, which is something we do all the time, but this time we kept going past 72nd and we stayed on the bike/pedestrian path that goes all the way down to Battery Park (at the southern tip of Manhattan). We were at about 50th Street when we started discussing our options for the rest of our walk. Did we want to attempt to make it down to Battery Park and take a taxi home? Did we want to head to Chelsea Piers (around 20th Street) and get a snack? Neither of us was tired and Jack was sleeping soundly, so we walked on without making a decision. We were so jealous when we passed two cruise ships docked at the piers with scores of people arriving for their trips. We discussed ways of sneaking on. Eventually, I decided we should try to make it to Chelsea Piers, but then around 35th Street, we decided instead to turn around and head home. We were 50 blocks from our house! That's the farthest Jack has been from home, not that he was awake at all to know it. On the walk home, we stopped to share a Belgian waffle from a truck that sells them outside of Fairway (they totally stole Adrian's idea). We weren't impressed - the ones in Belgium were much better. We figured we deserved the treat after the long walk. I wonder where we'll go tomorrow.
