BEHEMOTH

If you know me, then you know that it usually takes me a day or two to read a book. Currently though, I am working my way through "Jonathan Strange and Mr. Norrell" - a book that comes in at a whopping 846 pages. I have been reading it since early January and I want it to be done. It isn't that the book is boring; on the contrary, it's a really good book. Very well-written and quite entertaining. It's just that I'm over it already. I'm on page 649 and it feels like 100. I have about 25 purchased books here at home waiting...and waiting...for their turn by my bedside. I look forward to when I can delve into those and return to my normal reading practices.

A WINDOW AWAY

Last night at dinner, Adrian and I were in the window seat of Chow when an obviously destitute gentleman knocked on the window and proceeded to ask us for money by showing us his palm which contained some coins. We looked at him with disbelief. Did he really think we were going to stop eating just to go outside and give him some money? As he moved on to the other window, Adrian and I (almost at the same time) stated that we should have taken a $20 bill out and banged it against our side of the window...and then just shrugged our shoulders. This still cracks us up. And before you go on thinking we're mean individuals, let it be known that we give away plenty to the homeless, including clothes and food - just never money.

BLAZING SADDLES

We had planned to bike to and then up the Embarcadero for our workout today. That was going to be it since it entailed a route we had never taken before as well as a route that was full of traffic even with designated bike lanes. But it turned out to be way easier than we had expected, so we continued to bike through Fisherman's Wharf...past Crissy Field and the Presidio...over the Golden Gate Bridge...and finally into Sausalito. We stopped for a break and a shared sandwich at the Sausalito Bakery & Cafe and then biked a little around the city. We ogled the beautiful yachts and sailboats (I swear I saw a famous older guy at one of the yachts, but I cannot think of his name) and listened to the local weirdo at the dock tell people he had met Lance Armstrong just yesterday (which could possibly be true since there is a bike race in Sausalito this coming weekend). On our ride, we passed many tourists on their "Blazing Saddles" bikes and wondered how in the world they were going to get back to the city, as the route back from Sausalito requires conquering some steep hills. We, okay - mainly me, were wondering how we were going to do it ourselves when we came across the ferry schedule. Aha - that's the secret. We jumped on the 3:20 ferry, took a fun little excursion around Alcatraz, and landed at the ferry dock on the Embarcadero just in time to ride home before traffic starting getting bad. With help from my dandy new bike computer, I am able to say that we rode for two and a half hours today and I supposedly burned over 550 calories (I like to think it must be way more).

CHO-CHO

I got my shoes after tracking them down at UPS. They're fabulous. We had a great time in Puerto Vallarta. My beautiful tan is now peeling away. Slaven was in town. We introduced him to our newest addiction - quiddler (or quidditch as we call it). It's a card game - similar to Scrabble, but with cards. Adrian is a genius at it. Our DVR is 96% full, so we plan to spend tonight and much of tomorrow catching up on our tv shows. We were supposed to have book club with Noah and Katie tomorrow, but one couple didn't finish reading the book in time. That's all the cho-cho I have for now.
