TIMING

I ordered a custom-made pair of Nike sneakers back on December 9 and was given a shipping estimate of 6-10 weeks. Yep, that's right...6-10 weeks. I was hoping that would a generous overestimate, so every day since December 10 I've been hoping UPS would show up at my door with my new shoes. It didn't help that I tossed my old workout shoes around mid-December in the absurd hope that this would accelerate the process of getting the new ones. Every time I saw a UPS truck in our neighborhood, I would say to Adrian, "Maybe it's my shoes!" but it never was. So imagine my excitment when I finally got an email this morning saying my shoes had shipped. And then my frustration when I realized that I am going to be gone all next week and the shoebox won't fit over our gate. Luckily, the UPS website says that the sneakers are delayed in Korea, so I am hoping that our timing will be just right and they'll come knocking on my door the day we get back. Or soon thereafter. Fingers crossed.

YOU CAN CALL US MATT AND BEN

Adrian and I were up until the wee hours of the morning working on a "concept" screenplay for Anderson. We'd already spent the previous night working on one that was sent off yesterday afternoon. This other one took us a bit more time. We had the whole movie planned out, and while Adrian wanted to write the whole movie, I kept reminding him that Anderson only needed a concept. We compromised and focused on writing scenes and dialogue for the beginning of the movie and the end. Writing is tough work - especially when you're working with a partner. You have to be able to take criticism. You have to be able to speak your mind. You have to have a big bag of Starbucks chocolate-covered espresso beans by your side. But most of all, you have to make it fun, and boy, did we have fun. We'll let you know when we get our Oscar tickets.

EVIL AMAZON

Remember this? Today at a different independent bookstore in the city, Adrian was told by the cashier that he had "the mark of Satan" on his credit card. Great business acumen - insult the consumer while he's making a purchase. Just for that, I placed a fat order for books from Amazon (that I saw at the bookstore!) when I got home.

MOST ATHLETIC

Yesterday, Adrian and I spent the first part of our morning bicycling through Golden Gate Park. We then stopped for brunch at the Beach Chalet out at Ocean Beach. We then continued our ride up to the Presidio, but decided at the last minute that two and a half hours of bicycling was enough for one day, so we'd pass on the Presidio for the moment. As if that wasn't enough for us, we then dropped the bikes off and headed to the East Bay for an afternoon of tennis playing with Noah and Katie. I haven't played tennis in forever, but it slowly came back to me - almost like the bike-riding. You never truly forget. It was the most exercise either of us had done in quite awhile, but it made for a great day. And I slept like a baby last night.

SHOPAHOLICS

We have turned into them. It's good and it's not good. We only make purchases that we love - high quality items that will last us forever - but we love lots of things. New bikes here, Burberry jacket there...it goes on and on. It's tiring. I need a nap.

WE DID IT FOR ROHANIE

Last night, Katie and I got drunk. Yeah, yeah...I know you New Yorkers (and Kenta) are reading that and scoffing since that's an activity you partake in daily, if not hourly. But it's a rare occurrence for me and my girl to be in such rare form. Katie was probably a tad worse off than I was - to the point where I was woken this morning by a message from Noah asking what had we done to her. What can I say? That we can't down a bottle of wine and a few Long Islands the way we could in college? (Who am I kidding? Like we drank wine and mixed drinks in college.) I'll just say we did it for Rohanie, since it was her birthday party and we wanted to do it up right. The displays of affection for AsiaSF employees (Katie), the crying over short Mexicans looking for love (Amanda), the bonding with strangers at the bar (both)...that's just all part of the package.

HOT COOKIE

My favorite cookie has always been a peanut butter and chocolate chip mixture - and it isn't a cookie that's easy to come by. Mrs. Field's doesn't make one. What we usually do there is buy a chocolate chip cookie and a peanut butter cookie and then put one on top of the other and make what we like to call a "cookie sandwich." There's a fabulous cookie store in the Castro that sells the mixture in one cookie, and I used to love it...until they changed their recipe and started leaving actual peanuts in the cookie. Um, no one asked for the peanuts. However, at the same time, they also introduced a new mini cookie. It's a mixture of chocolate chocolate chip and sugar white chocolate chip. It's a little cookie with jungle fever...and it's honestly the best cookie I've ever had. I'm not kidding. It's that good. I don't even look at the big cookies anymore. And you can't beat that eating mini cookies makes you feel better about your caloric intake - at least for me. Oh, my diet starts tomorrow.
