WE'RE NOT JUST ABOUT THE HOMELESS

Tomorrow, Hollywood comes to the Lower Haight, or at least Will Smith does. Our neighborhood and our street are currently cordoned off in preparation for a chase sequence that will film tomorrow for a movie titled "The Pursuit of Happyness." A fake BART platform has been built in our dog park and security men are roaming around in front of our house guarding the plethora of 80's cars that have been parked there and the surrounding area. There are men with walkie-talkies and women with official badges. It's so big time! If I wasn't off to New York tomorrow, I would be parked at my window all day waiting for my brief glimpse of those big ears running past my window.

SHE'S GOT SKILLS

I was asked at a tutoring interview today what skills I have. I really don't like this question. Hobbies are one thing - I love to read, watch movies, travel, play board games, shop... I could go on and on. But skills? What are they really looking for? Do they want to know that I can pair a black sweater with brown boots, only because it takes great skill to find the exact shade of brown to match black? Or that I can read a complete "Us Weekly" while walking on a treadmill at a 6.0 incline and a speed of 3.2? Does that count as a skill? I can read, I can write, and I've worked with kids. If that's not enough skills for you, then you better take notice of my skill of blogging while on the phone and watching television.
