Without a doubt, Adrian is the harshest food critic I know. Every Thursday, on our lunch date, we leave the restaurant and when I ask him what he thought, he always, always says..."It was okay." (This also goes for everything from movies to Broadway shows to clothes I try on - it is his standard response to most anything.) So I couldn't believe it today when we left our lunching spot and I asked him what he thought and he said, "It was quite good." Let me repeat that in case you missed it because when I first heard it, I almost fainted. He said, "It was quite good." Ahh...but here's the kicker. He followed that up with, "You know I judge a place by their bread, and they had really good bread." Forget the saffron pappardelle appetizer or the short rib croque monsieur or the black forest mousse. That bread - now that was a winner.
